When installing programs such as Dakota Sizer and Dakota AlphaSizer,
the program is installed into the computer from the CD. The CD is
inserted into the CD drive and usually an AUTO RUN screen pops up
guiding one through an installation process. In some instances, the
user goes to START, RUN and may have to type in a command line.
The necessary instructions are always included in the program or are on the CD.
DATA CD's
Dakota Collectibles designs are stored on a media source known as DATA CD's.
Retrieving the information is as simple as reading information from a 3.5 floppy diskette.
Simply switch to the drive letter indicating the CD ROM drive to read the design CD's.
EXAMPLE PROCEDURE: Put the CD into the CD ROM drive.
Open the embroidery software program. Click on FILE, OPEN,
switch to the drive letter for the CD ROM drive, (not the c:\drive).
The collection name and/number should appear. Below in the big box, a
folder with the same name should appear. Click onto it and click OK or OPEN.
More folders will appear. Each one stores the designs of the specific format (language).
(ie, find the .art design files in the ART folder; find the
.pes design files in the PES folder) Click onto the folder of the format desired.
(ie, users of .pes/Brother format would click onto the PES folder, etc.)
Click onto OPEN or OK. The designs should appear in the window. Click onto one to
highlight it and click OPEN or OK. When opening a format different than the program,
switch to the format that matches the folder type under FILES OF TYPE. (ie, if Tajima
.dst) is desired, click onto the DST folder and under FILES OF TYPE select Tajima (.dst))
Files on DATA CD's are READ ONLY and you cannot modify this data.
To modify the data, the file attributes READ ONLY check mark must be
removed in the DESIGN PROPERTIES dialogue box. To perform this procedure,
first copy the design from the CD to the hard drive or a floppy disk.
Do a directory and click on the folder on the hard drive where the design is,
or the floppy disk. RIGHT click on the file. A drop-down list appears.
LEFT click on PROPERTIES. The PROPERTIES dialogue box appears. Under ATTRIBUTES,
click the check mark beside READ ONLY to remove it. Click APPLY. Click OK to close the box.
SUMMARY: When using a CD, first determine if it is a PROGRAM CD or a DATA CD.
