If you have a home embroidery machine and have the ability in your computer
embroidery program to OPEN or IMPORT a "commercial" format (language),
then you may be able to use designs in a commercial format.
One very dependable, often usable commercial format is Tajima (.dst).
To find out if your existing computer embroidery program can OPEN Tajima (.dst)
format, in your computer embroidery program, click on FILE, OPEN. An OPEN dialogue
box appears on the screen. Locate the area at the bottom where it says FILE TYPES
or TYPES OF FILES. To the right, there is a small black down-arrow. Click it to
get a drop-down list of all of the available formats the program can OPEN. If
.dst/Tajima is listed, it means you can OPEN Tajima (.dst) format. To proceed to
bring up the Tajima (.dst) file, in the LOOK IN window at the top, switch to the
drive the Tajima (.dst) file is stored. When the file appears, click on it, then
click on OPEN or OK. The file will appear on your screen.
If Tajima (.dst) format is not available in the list, click CANCEL. Again, click on FILE,
look for IMPORT, (sometimes, also, FROM FILE), and click on it. An IMPORT dialogue box
appears on your screen. Once again, locate the area at the bottom where it says
FILE TYPES or TYPES OF FILES and click the small black down-arrow to get a drop-down
list of all of the available formats the program can IMPORT. If Tajima (.dst) is listed,
it means you can IMPORT Tajima (.dst) format. There may also be other formats you can IMPORT.
To proceed to bring up a Tajima (.dst) file, in the LOOK IN window at the top,
switch to the drive the Tajima (.dst) file is stored. When the file appears,
click on it, then click on IMPORT. The file will appear on your screen.
You may also have the ability in other computer embroidery software programs you
own to read a commercial format. Follow the above OPEN and IMPORT methods to find
out which computer embroidery software programs might allow reading Tajima (.dst)
format or another commercial format.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: When clicking on the small down-arrow to get the available
list of FILE TYPES or TYPES OF FILES, the selection, ALL FILES, is not the correct choice.
When ALL FILES is selected, any file stored in the folder selected may appear in the box.
But, the only files that can be OPENED or IMPORTED, are those supported by the specified
formats in the TYPE OF FILES, or FILE TYPES list.
