It is very exciting for home sewers to suddenly be able to apply embroidery,
since for many years, only commercial machines could accomplish such a task.
In the excitement of wanting to get started, don't forget to read your embroidery
manuals for both your computer embroidery program and your embroidery machine. Also,
read the HELP file found in the computer embroidery software program.
Plan to spend some time learning about all of the wonderful features and
capabilities in your specific computer embroidery software program.
One such item to not overlook is the design editing capabilities. No one design
applies the same to all types of fabrics. Different fabrics, different backings,
and different hooping techniques affect how well a design will apply. Learn how
to use your editing software for moving the fills and/or detail lines slightly to
adjust the design so it will stitch better for your specific fabric application.
When choosing designs, it is important to consider the type of fabric the design
will be applied to. We always recommend that designs be test sewn on fabric, using
backing, similar to what will be used on the final application. Test sewing can help
determine if a certain design will work for a specific application, or, what
adjustments need to be done.
Other things to keep in mind are, how large the design is, how many stitches are
in the design, if it has 'airy' spacing, if it is dense with full-fills, if it has
a lot of detail lines, and if resizing is desired. Some designs work better on
different fabrics with different backings.
