Using Our Designs Answers

Opening Designs in Embroidery Program

PRIOR TO OPENING YOUR DESIGNS: If your design file is named Designs.zip or Designs.exe, you must unzip your designs prior to opening them in your embroidery software program. Click here for unzipping instructions.
  1. Open your embroidery software program.
  2. Go to FILE, *OPEN, and switch to the location you saved your designs to (i.e., floppy A:drive, a folder on your hard drive, or if you purchased your designs on a CD, switch to your CD ROM drive). *Depending on your software, instead of OPEN, you may need to select IMPORT, INPUT, or LOAD.
  3. Be sure that the FILES OF TYPE box is reflecting the format of the designs you want to open.
  4. You should now either see the design number(s) or a file folder containing your designs. If you see a file folder, double-click it until you see the individual design numbers (you may need to open several folders before reaching the individual design numbers).
  5. Click on the number of the design you want, and click OPEN.
The instructions for opening designs may differ for various embroidery software programs. Please contact us at 1-800-331-3160 if the above instructions do not work, or if you have any trouble.

If you have a design file labeled Designs.zip or Designs.exe, the design(s) must be unzipped prior to using in your machine or in your embroidery software program.
  1. Locate the Designs.exe or Designs.zip file and double-click it. See below if you cannot locate your file.
  2. If your file is a .zip file, it will open up in your unzipping software. Find and click on the Extract button, and select a location where you want to unzip your design(s) to.
  3. If your file is an .exe file, a WinZip Self-Extractor box will open up. In the "Unzip to Folder" window, select where your want your design(s) to unzip to (click the Browse button if you want to change the default location).
  4. You will receive a box indicating your design file(s) has unzipped successfully.
  5. You will find your design(s) in the location you unzipped them to.
If you cannot find the downloaded file.
  1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop.
  2. Click on "Find" from the menu.
  3. In the "Named" field, type in the name of your file (the name will either be the design file number or, if it was zipped or sent as a self-extracting file, it will be named Designs.exe or Designs.zip.)
  4. In the Look In file, select your Hard drive (C:)
  5. Click on the "Find Now" button.
